Arts Gunnedah Presents,

ART WORD PLACE

Art Word Place focuses on the interplay between text and image and was coordinated by Caroline Downer, Executive Director, Arts North West.

Eighteen writers from the Arts North West region have been commissioned to create a short poem based on their home landscape. Selected artists have then drawn on this composition as the basis and inspiration of a new work capturing the identity and sense of place of the New England North West.

There are recurring themes – of rivers, plains and sky, of drought, of adversity but also of optimism.

Art Word Place will be exhibiting at The Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery throughout December and continues until 3.00pm Sunday 31 January, 2021.

Enjoy some of the ART WORD PLACE exhibition pieces currently on show at Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery in Gunnedah.

Have friends or family that can't make it along? Pass this along so they can still enjoy the pieces on display and offer.

By the river then. Where shaded nooks land-locked by night grow dew-fresh, as the light snail-silver in its dawn, presses afresh the baptismal hand. Here then a shining memory. The child who came. The blanket spread. The catch of hem at the edge where water sucks and algae grows, unbridled. And captured in that green-blue swirl, A woody heart knot-stained by age gives thanks for sun-speared glass leafed days, laughter filled and joyous. Jo White & Nicole Alexander

A river is flowing through my Country, Where Dreamtime stories are told, To children around a campfire, Where embers brightly glow. Dancers dance in time to chapsticks, Head through a sunset sky, From a Dreamtime story told, By Elders long ago. My Country is a special place, Where I am always at home. Where the Ancestors look with caring eyes, At the children which have grown. As I journey in my life wherever I go, My Country is calling me to where a river flows.
